Workshops
We run workshops for in variety of settings including Schools, Colleges, Libraries, Youth and Community Centres, as well as in Correctional Facilities. Workshops can be a one off or a series leading to a performance and / or publication of the work. We cater for young people with behavioural and emotional problems, young people on the gifted and talented scheme, adults with mental health or literacy problems, teachers learning creative techniques and adults from writers groups.Workshops include the use of original music, poetry and rap performed live, that is used to stimulate and inspire participants to write more , read more, listen more and learn more skills. This directly improves literacy and gives more confidence in intellectual and academic capabilities. Good communication is essential both in the personal and work life of everyone. The communication skills learnt in the workshops can cross over into many areas. Better skills in this area will improve participant's level of success, both personally and professionally. If they can see that they are capable of producing intelligent and imaginative work that they didn't think they would be able to, what else can they do that they didn't think they would be able to. It may give them the confidence they need to try things they were afraid to try incase they failed. Ideas can be expressed through the written and spoken word. It will help people to discover their inner talents by helping them to express their views and opinions creatively. Workshops can be therapeutic as they teach people how to express their emotions, experiences and identity through verse. They find their voice and thus become empowered. The ability to express what is inside validates them as people. |
